Mid Century Modern

In 2019 I purchased and renovated this 1959 Mid Century Modern home in the Sunrise Park neighborhood of Palm Springs in California. The house had been occupied by the previous owner for 40 years and needed modern updates throughout. We installed new polished concrete floor tile, wiring, plumbing, decor and appliances. In the garden I extended the garden with a walled new courtyard to home a Corten steel fire pit. The pool needed new mechanicals, re-plastering, new pool deck, LED lighting and I added a new built-in jacuzzi. The home is now a vacation home and an in-demand AirBNB.

Chester

Working alongside Dan Ruhland Designs and with the new owner of this 20-acre property over 18 months, we cleaned up, edited and replanted the very neglected grounds, refurbished the swimming pool area, re-graded the driveway and installed antique cobble edge, and created a greenhouse and substantial herb garden.

70s A Frame in the woods

The challenge for this project was to transform a dated “A frame Lodge” on a beautiful but  heavily wooded shaded lot. The solution was to simplify the décor, install classic bathrooms, bigger windows and additional doors to the exterior, and remove up to 20 older and dangerous trees to let in the light. I then built a pool and patios to join the house to the pool area.

Mid-Century Modern Rehab

Built in 1959, this rare New Jersey Mid-Century Modern house on 15 acres of hilltop rural land needed a complete aesthetic renovation – a major “clean up & face lift.’  Designed by a prodigy of Frank Lloyd Wright, It needed updates to all the mechanicals – roof, energy efficient lighting, HVAC, solar power for the pool, and reversal of an earlier 1980s renovation.

1740s River House

Originally built in 1740s and owned by the Shippen Family (whose daughter married Benedict Arnold, one of George Washington’s most trusted generals before becoming an infamous traitor!), this early American farmhouse sits on a river with its own mill. The house had been abandoned for 10+ years in foreclosure. It was a complete gut renovation that started by stripping out many previous alterations, resulting in 30 dumpsters being hauled away. I turned it into a modern farmhouse, both comfortable and hard-wearing, with all modern-day energy efficient standards.
